This is the place to get more geeky, in-depth knowledge about the inner workings of our products.

The Case for Our Case

We tried to make the case look a little more geeky but couldn't figure out how to do it! We went with this case because we believe it uses less energy to produce than a fancy high brow one, and therefore is more environmentally friendly. Also the case is constructed of heaver gauge material to make it more indestructible than thinner, cuter ones.

Seriously, we really think the form factor is very compact and convenient, and should you ever wish to change the battery, the lid slides off for easy access. What could be geekier that that? (If you change the battery, CAREFULLY observe the polarity or MyBlueBoost won't be happy.  Be sure to use ONLY an 18650 PROTECTED battery.)

Self Discharge of MyBlueBoost

Lithium-ion batteries typically have one of the lowest self-discharge rates among common battery types. They typically self discharge at a rate of 3 to 5 percent the first month and 1 to 2 percent each following month. We have found during our extensive testing of MyBlueBoost technology that a fully charged unit can remain on the shelf for 6 months and still provide an amazing amount of power for your devices! Now you can buy a second MyBlueBoost and keep it on the shelf just for that time you must be able to use the phone.

Self discharge is also affected by temperature - the cooler the better.

Design and Reliability

We cut no corners when designing MyBlueBoost. The integrated circuits and passive components we chose for the design are very robust and used far below their design limits to ensure a very long life.

The battery charging circuit is designed especially for lithium-ion batteries and provides the proper charging currents throughout the charging range. When the battery is fully charged this circuit automatically switches off. Additional security is provided by the battery itself. The battery contains a PCB that will also stop charging when it is fully charged. This double protection helps to ensure long battery life.

The DC boost circuitry (which provides a constant 5 volts to the USB output) is a finely tuned system. It actually limits the maximum current that can be drawn from the battery to ensure long charging times for your devices. (Remember that as the battery voltage drops the current drawn from the battery increases to keep the power going into your device constant.) When the battery is finally exhausted the DC boost circuit shuts off automatically, thus preserving long battery life. Additionally, the PCB in the battery itself will shut off if the battery becomes depleted.

So to summarize, it's well designed and double protected for quality. This isn't your grandma's portable battery power unit - it's MyBlueBoost.

Other Uses

Of course, if you're a true geek, you will want to use MyBlueBoost for other things. Here's the scoop: The output is a very clean and well regulated 5 volts. You should have no trouble drawing 500 mA at all times (until the battery is discharged).

Use it to power your breadboard projects and save the design headaches.
